Tamar Valley

Marvel in the largest grape growing region in the state of Tasmania, Australia.

Tasmania Winery Tours in the Tamar Valley

Less than 0.5% of Australian wines come from Tasmania and yet we are punching way above our weight with national and international awards.  Our Sparkling, Riesling and Pinot Noir wines are challenging the best not only in Australia but also across the world.

The Tamar Valley is the largest grape growing region in Tasmania, Australia, with many boutique cellar doors showcasing some of the best cool climate wines in the world.

Many of the vineyards are small and family-owned and you will be greeted by the owners who will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about wines and wine-making.

The West Tamar is made up of tiny villages and towns alongside the Tamar River, a fresh and salt water tidal estuary starting in Launceston and winding its way up to the Bass Strait.  Although all grape varietals grown in Tasmania are featured in the West Tamar region due to the micro-climate there is a bigger selection of red wines in this area.

Travel through luscious farmland East of the Tamar River to the Pipers River region of the Tamar Valley Wine Route.  This area specialises in sparkling wine and Pinot Noir.  Tasmania has been described as “the sparkling capital of Australia”.

Just on the edge of town, 10 minutes south of Launceston, by the banks of the North Esk River and surrounded by beautiful mountains is the scenic Relbia region of the Tamar Valley Wine Route.  All of these vineyards are locally owned and feature most of the cool climate grape varietals.
