Tamar Valley Wine – the wines from the cool climate of Tasmania have secured a special place within the Australian wine industry. With greater frequency, mainland wine companies/makers are procuring Tasmanian land and/or established vineyards to source grapes for their premium sparkling wines. Tasmania’s cooler climate is able to achieve a delicacy of flavour not achievable in warmer regions.
There have been studies to show that Tasmania’s terroir, specifically the climate, is similar to the wine growing regions of Northern France.
It is not surprising that our flagship red is the burgundy beauty Pinot Noir and our sparkling wines are challenging the long held position of the Champagne region.
The Alsace trio Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris are becoming increasingly popular. Wine production in Tasmania is classified as ‘boutique’ and the owners, growers and/or winemakers, are very “hands on”.
With warm friendly cellar door environments and great views you will wonder why you haven’t done this sooner.
